Halli Thorliefsson 在得到 Elon Musk 的回覆後隨即便確認被解僱的消息，而這個對話亦廣泛在 Twitter 上被分享後。但 Elon Musk 卻進一步批評 Halli Thorliefsson，表示 Halli 是個知名及活躍的 Twitter 帳戶，且相當富有，認為他以殘疾作為其無法工作的藉口，目的只是想要獲得大筆補償。
而Halli解釋，他把公司出售的其中一個原因是因罹患肌肉萎縮症，並能在未來無法工作時可讓他和家人好好生活。
The reality is that this guy (who is independently wealthy) did no actual work, claimed as his excuse that he had a disability that prevented him from typing, yet was simultaneously tweeting up a storm.

而 Elon Musk 的回應引發起外界熱烈的批評，許多人都認為他不應該該這樣對待人。為平息眾怒，Elon Musk 日前發表推文公開向 Halli 致歉，並表示「因被告知的不真實的事情，所以誤解了他的情況」。
I would like to apologize to Halli for my misunderstanding of his situation. It was based on things I was told that were untrue or, in some cases, true, but not meaningful.
He is considering remaining at Twitter.

據了解，Halli Thorliefsson 患有肌肉萎縮症，在 Twitte上有約15萬名追蹤者，並是冰島新創公司 Ueno 的創辦人，但 Ueno 在2021年被 Twitte 收購後，其成為了 Twitte 的員工。
